George Lopez
George Lopez is an incredible comedic draw wherever he performs, which by the way is everywhere. He has performed at some of the largest venues in the world, and delighted audiences of all ages. In 2004 George Lopez set an attendance record at LA’s Universal Amphitheater with seven consecutive sold-out performances and over 42,000 in total attendance.
George Lopez was born on April 23, 1961. Grew up in LA’s San Fernando Valley. George Lopez draws from his childhood for much of the content of his comedy. Among George’s influences are Richard Pryor, Freddie Prinze, Cheech & Chong, Paul Mooney and Chris Rock.
He has four comedy albums out. 2004’s “Team Leader” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. His first book, an autobiography called “Why You Crying,” was in the New York Time’s top 20 Bestsellers list. He has had two television comedy specials, “George Lopez Why You Cryin?” on Showtime and “America’s Mexican” on HBO.
Lopez also starred in the 2008 film Beverly Hills Chihuahua and was a cast member and commentator for HBO’s Inside the NFL. He has hosted the Latin Grammy’s twice and was a co-host of the Emmys. In 2005, “Time magazine” named George Lopez one of “The 25 Most Influential Hispanics In America.”

The George Lopez TV show actually can thank actress Sandra Bullock for its inception. She was concerned about the lack of Hispanic characters on TV and approached George Lopez about developing a show with Hispanic characters. ABC jumped at the chance to run the show, and it began airing in 2002. George Lopez served as star, co-creator, writer and producer for the show, which ran until 2007. The George Lopez Show won a Primetime Emmy Award.
George Lopez is also very involved in charity work, starting The George & Ann Lopez-Richie Alarcon CARE Foundation. He worked hard in fundraising efforts after the earthquakes in El Salvador and Guatemala. In February 2004, Harvard University presented George Lopez with the Artist of the Year and Humanitarian Award for his artistic work as well as charitable endeavors.
He is married to Ann Serrano and the couple has one child. George Lopez is also a big golfer and normally ranks in near the top at charity gold events.
